Vows (1997 - 1999)

Often, the significance of an event is inextricable from where it took place. In Maine, USA during the summer of 1993, the Rust family – my uncle and cousins - generously allowed Sarah and me to hold our wedding on their farm. The ceremony took place at the top of a hill where open pasture met abruptly with a wooded area. We spent long periods walking the hill and woods in the year before the wedding and on visits during the decade after.

These are my versions of wedding photographs, taken some years after the event itself and first presented in an album as a gift to Sarah for our 10th anniversary. There are a lot of extraordinary people and moments to remember from the wedding, and our memory of this place remains as constant as the vows spoken there. This series is dedicated to the Rusts.
